Tensile Tester

This Tensile tester done to measure the Tensile strength tester property of any  material. The equipment is called tensile strenght tester. Take a strip of 12” x 1” from testing material and aligned it properly between two iron rods. Before moving further, make sure that t.s. Tensile tester scale needle is on zero. Press the start button and both iron rods move into reverse direction. Where this strip breaks, take the reading of meter scale. This reading comes in k.g. So for lbs multiply it with 2.2. So derive figure will be Tensile strength tester for testing material. This strength requirement varies from buyer to buyer.

Purpose of Tensile Strength Tester:

This Tensile test covers the grab test procedures for determining the breaking strength and elongation of most textile fabrics. This test is not recommended for knitted fabrics or other textile fabric which have high stretch.  To determine the maximum force required to rupture (break) a woven fabric. Principle of Tensile Tester

The centre part of the test specimen is held by grips of a specific dimension and extended at a constant rate until it ruptures (breaks).  The force at which this occurs is then recorded. The correct number of test specimens are to be prepared and tested as specified within this test method in order to achieve a performance assessment of the product/fabric as described within the scope. Nb: a 2.5mm seam opening is used where the warp and weft threads are contrasting colours. A blank dyeing is prepared in the presence of uv-screening agents.  The improvement in extensibility and Tensile strength tester is determined  following exposure to light (fakra 3x)

Function: To determine the tensile properties of single yarn.

Description: Tensile strength and elongation are the two prime characteristics of most of the raw materials, whether they are metals, or non metals such as foam, rubber, leather, textiles, plastic, paper or finished products such as rods, ropes, yarns, belts etc.  This  two  properties  often   play amajor role in determining the suitability of any raw materials for specified application. It is therefore, of utmost importance to determine these characteristics accuratel

Specimen preparation

  • Prepare specimens, randomly selected from the fabric so that they do not contain the same warp and weft threads.
  • Cut 3 rectangular specimens parallel to the warp direction and 3 rectangular specimens parallel to the weft direction.
  • Each specimen should measure 150mm in length and 100mm in width
  • Place a direction line parallel to the warp on each specimen prior to removing from the fabric

Note: the un seamed sample from Tensile test method 4.13 can be used for this test (this sample measures 100mm x 180).on each specimen, carefully draw a guide line at a distance of 38mm from one of the long edges running the full length of the specimen.

Conditioning: condition the specimens for a minimum of 4 hours in a conditioned atmosphere of 20 ± 2°c and 65 ± 2% rh before testing. Carry out the test in this atmosphere. The test specimens are to be conditioned in the standard atmosphere of 65% relative humidity (rh) +/- 2% and 20°c +/- 2°c for a minimum of 4 hours. All tests should also be carried out in this atmosphere.

 

Tensile Test procedure

Using an automatic constant rate of extension tensile tester

  • The programme is automatic. The test speed is 50mm per minute.
  • Use the 75mm x 25mm rubber faced grip on the rear and 25mm x 25mmm grip on the front.
  • With the correct grips in place set  the distance between upper and lower sets of  grips  to 100mm, this should be checked using a calibrated metal ruler
  • Select the correct programme and input the appropriate machine settings and fabric details etc.
  • Fix the Tensile test specimen centrally in the upper grips, so that the 38mm line drawn on the specimen coincides with one edge of the grips.
  • Close the upper grips.
  • Avoiding any pretension, adjust the specimen along the guide line into the lower grips.
  • Close the lower grips
  • Set the cross head in motion.
  • The maximum force at which the fabric ruptures (breaks) will be recorded
  • Repeat the above procedure for the remaining specimens.

Note: any break which occurs within 5mm of the clamping line of the grips should be reported as a grip break . If the grip break falls below the lowest normal break results then it should be disregarded and further samples tested. If it falls above the lowest normal break result, then it can be included

Scop:

This in house test method describes the method of test in order to determine the ability of a woven fabric to resist yarn slippage.

Preparation of test specimens/materials

  • Indicate the face of the fabric. Use an f.
  • Avoid fabric within 50mm of selvedge.
  • The finished specimen size is 100mm x 350mm. Prepare five specimens with the 100mm dimension parallel to the length (warp), this will produce a weft tensile and warp way seam and five specimens with the 100mm dimension parallel to the width (weft), this will produce a warp tensile and a weft way seam.
  • Prepare the specimens so that they do not contain the same set of warp and weft threads.
  • Fray down the 100mm edge on each specimen. Place a direction line parallel to the length on each specimen.
  • Draw a fold line on each specimen on the reverse, 100mm from the frayed side.

Stitching the specimen

  • Use a test piece in the same fabric which must be folded in the same direction as the specimen to check that the number of stitches are 10 per 20mm using a 90 metric needle and ticker 75/80 sewing thread.
  • Check that the stitch is balanced at this stage, this means that the appearance of the stitching is the same on both sides. If the stitch is not balanced re-adjust the tensions.
  • Stitch the specimens 20mm from the fold line.
  • Trim the seam to 12mm exactly, measure from the centre of the stitching line.
  • Cut each specimen in half parallel to the seam to give 2 specimens of equal length. One with and one without a seam.

Test procedure: using an automatic constant rate of extension tensile tester

  • Th programme is automatic. The Tensile test speed is 100mm per minute.
  • Use the 75mm x 25mm rubber faced clamps on the rear jaws and the 25mm x 25mm rubber faced clamps on the front jaws, to give an area of 25mm x 25mm when the jaws are closed.
  • The correct jaws must be in place before going into the programme.
  • Set the gauge length to 75mm using a calibrated ruler. Then go into the appropriate programme.
  • Slack mount the specimens in the jaws, ensuring that they are central and straight, so not apply any tension above 0.1 units. This is shown on the force zero display.
  • Place the un-seamed specimen in the jaws first and then set the cross head in motion. When this has returned to zero, remove the specimen and place the seam specimen in the jaws, the seam should be midway between the jaws.
  • The un-seamed specimen Tensile strength tester will be recorded up to 500n (50kg). This is a 1” grab method tensile strength.
  • The seam opening of 5mm will be recorded at a specific load or if it is stronger than 20kg then this will be recorded. It will also be necessary to report the type of seam failure.

Test procedure: using a constant rate of extension tensile strength tester and chart recorder

  • The test speed is 100mm per minute.
  • Use the 75mm x 25mm rubber faced clamps on the rear jaws and the 25mm x 25mm rubber faced clamps on the front jaws, to give an area of 25mm x 25mm when the jaws are closed.
  • Set the load range to 500n (50kg).
  • Set the gauge length to 75mm using a calibrated ruler.
  • Set the graph to give a chart to cross head ratio of 5:1.
  • Mount the specimens in the jaws, ensuring that they are central and straight, do not apply any tension above 0.1 units.
  • Place the un-seamed specimen in the jaws first and the set of the cross head in motion. When this has returned to zero, remove the specimen and place the seamed specimen in the jaws, the seam should be midway between the jaws.

Assessment/results of tested specimens

  • For each pair of curves, accurately measure the distance between the curves at a load of 50n (0.5kg). This is to compensate for the initial straightening of the seamed test piece.
  • Add this distance to 25mm, (equal to a seam opening of 5mm) or (12.5mm equal to an opening of 2.5mm). This gives the figure for seam opening plus compensation.
  • Moving up the pair of curves, find the point on the horizontal axis, where the separation between the curves is equivalent to this distance, read off the load.

Reporting of results

  • Report the test method number and title.
  • Report the average of the 5 tensile strength results for each direction. If the results exceed 500n (50kg) then state this.
  • Report the average of the 5 seam opening results, by quoting the seam opening, either 2.5mm or 5mm and the load at which this occurred.
  • Also report if this is any seam breakdown, sewing thread breakage, fabric tearing at the jaws or fabric tearing generally.
  • If the results exceed 200n (20kg) report the seam opening of either 2.5mm or 5mm, as exceeds 20kg.
  • If the seam opening results vary by more than 10n (1kg) report the results individually.
  • If seam breakdown occurs at a lower load than the 5mm opening, then this should also be reported.

P.P.E means personal protective device. Maintenance personnel who are not concern about P.P.E, LOTO & insulated electrical tools may cause serious injury and sometimes it could be the reason of death. (Demerits)

  • Test instruments and equipment and all associated test leads, cables, power cords, probes, and connectors shall be visually inspected for external defects and damage before the equipment is used.

  • Make sure lines are de-energized before your work on them.

  • Alert your co-workers of garments to any unsafe work practices.
  • Report to all problems to your supervisor engineer
  • Please Know what to do in the event of
  • Electricity will try to reach ground even if it means going through a person. So, wearing something which make a separation between you and the ground level.
  • Even the “small” voltage from your home can cause serious injury. Be concerned about it.
  • Always inspect power tools and cords before each use and do not use them if damaged and Flexible cords shall only be used in continuous lengths, no taps or splices
  • Always use lockout/tag out procedures to de-energize electrical systems.
  • Do employees inspect their power tools, extension cords, and damaged insulation, bent/ missing pins, etc. before use?
  • Test instruments and equipment and all associated test leads, cables, power cords, multi plug, probes, and connectors, pplug shall be visually inspected for external defects and damage before the equipment which is used.
  • If there is a defect or evidence of damage that might expose the employee to injury, the defective and damaged item shall be removed fully from service, and no employee may use it until repairs and tests necessary to render the equipment safe have been made.
  • Only qualified persons may perform testing work on electric circuits or equipment.
  • Employees may not enter spaces containing exposed energized parts, unless illumination is provided that enables the employees to perform the work safely.
  • Employees may not reach blindly into areas which may contain energized parts.
  • Conductors and parts of electric equipment that have been DE energized but have not been locked out or tag in accordance with paragraph (below) of this section shall be treated as energized parts

Checklist Issues Regarding Flame/Fire resistant clothing

  • Never use a three prong plug with the third prong broken off.
  • Keep tool and cords away from heat, oil and harsh objects.
  • Wearing safety glasses to avoid eye injury. Especially for workshop related works.
  • Wearing proper foot protection. As an instance: Safety shoe (In accordance of electrical perspective )
  • Wearing a hard hat (electrical helmet). especially for heavy waited maintenance works
  • Following the manufacturer’s directions for cleaning/maintaining PPE.

Basic Checkpoints / questionnaires

  • Does the factory have procedures that provide guidance on electrical safety for the responsible person(s) authorized for maintaining the electrical system at the factory?
  • Does the factory have procedures that provide the following information for managing lockout/tagout:
  • A lockout/tagout assessment and identification all the equipment and machines that should be locked or tagged?
  • Instructions on how each of piece of equipment/ machine should be properly locked and tagged ?
  • a list of the responsible persons for locking/unlocking and tagging/untagging equipment/ machines;
  • Do all electrical, mechanical personnel , and relevant operators ( e.g., for elevators, forklift, etc) in the factory hold valid license issued by government authority where applicable?
  • Does the factory implement procedures regarding unauthorized entry into high voltage electrical stations and/or any other such restricted area ?
  • Are all electrical lines, control panels and junction boxes provided with safety signs as reqired by local law?
  • Are electrical junction boxes and control panels properly covered?
  • Are all electrical switches and control panels accessible and unobstructed?
  • Are all electrical wirings, insulation, switches and electrical in building/equipment/machinery properly installed, grounded and maintained?
  • Do these specialty areas have adequate protection?
  • Does the factory obtain valid equipment inspection certificates as per any applicable local regulations?(e.g. elevators,boiler,  air compressor, forklift, pressure vessels, vehicles and etc)
  • Are safety operating procedures in understandable local language and posted near or next to the machines?
  • Are machine guards appropriate and functional, including those for exposed or moving mechanical parts ? ( e.g. conveyor belt gears,drive shafts,  fan blades, hot surfaces, equipment with lasers)
  • Is there an emergency shut off mechanism or protective devices (e.g. lifeline, emergency button, automatic device) for machines where necessary?
  • Are machines regularly inspected according to scheduled preventive maintenance procedures?
  • Are machines and adjacent surrounding areas regularly cleaned? (e.g. oil leaks and dust)
  • Are lift/s equipped with adequate safety provisions, signs and valid permit to operate? (e.g. maximum load limit, secondary cable, safety doors, etc.)
  • Is a hot work permit system followed? (e.g. welding works approved by chief mechanic that the area of hot work is prepared for any eventuality of accidental fire)
  • Are workers effectively trained to use machines and equipment safely?
  • Does the factory have procedures that provide the following guidance on electrical safety:
  • How electrical problems (concerning the building or concerning individual equipment) are addressed, including equipment removal if needed?
  • Electrical certifications, inspections, assessments and reviews (overall electrical system, grounding system, lightning protection system)?

The purpose of the Personal Protective Equipment Policy (PPE) is to minimize injury to factory maintenance personnel through the proper use and care of personal protective equipment.

Considerations

  • Application: What part of the body is being protected?
  • Chemical Resistance: Will material maintain structural integrity and protective qualities.
  • Strength: Is the material resistant to punctures, tears, and abrasions?
  • Flexibility: Does PPE provide the necessary dexterity?
  • Thermal Limits: Does clothing maintain the mobility and protective capacity in temperature extremes?
  • Cleanable: It Can material be easily reused?
  • Longevity: It Will clothing resist age?

Electricity and electrical equipment are used on every site and home, everyone is familiar with it, but not all seems to remember that misuse of electricity/electrical equipment is dangerous. All electrical systems and equipment must be properly selected, installed, used and maintained to avoid accident.

Electrical equipment used on site, particularly power tools and other portable equipment and their leads, faces harsh condition and rough use, is likely to be damaged and become dangerous. Modern insulated tools are well protected but their leads are still exposed to damage and should be checked regularly before use.

Before The Use of Electricity and Other Electrical Tools

  • Check that all plugs and cables of the hand-held electrically powered tools are in good condition, inspected and color coded by a competent person.
  • Ensure that no naked wire is exposed
  • The plug is in good condition, for example, the casing is not cracked and pins not bent etc.
  • Ensure that there are no tape or other non-standard joints in the cable
  • Be sure that the outer case of the equipment (grinder etc) is not damaged or loosed, and all screws are in place.
  • Ensure that there is no overheating or signs of burn on the plug, cable or equipment.
  • Check regularly to ensure that all trip-off devices are in good working condition.
  • Never improvise with electrical equipment (Don’t manage)
  • Don’t leave trailing electrical cable where they can be damaged or cause tripping hazards, especially on access and walkways, raise cable above head level.
  • Always assume that cables, plugs, etc. are LIVE
  • Always disconnect grinders before replacing discs
  • Never repair electrical tools on your own, call an electrician to carry out repairs for you
  • Switch off all electrical equipment when not in use
  • Do not carry grinders and other electrical tools by holding on the leads
  • Do not leave extension cable and plug inside water
  • Protect exposed lead and welding terminals (Cover the expose terminal with plastic cover).
  • Report and remove all faulty electrical equipment and tools immediately

What is Environment Policy

To ensure healthy and hygienic environment for suitable and comfortable work place at Auto Limited. This policy applies to all employees of the company regarding all aspects of healthy environment in respect to national and international laws. Bangladesh is earning substantial amount of foreign currency by exporting readymade garments product. The project is an 100% export oriented garment manufacturing industry Established in January -2001. It is well recognized that each industrial development has impact on the natural environment policy directly or indirectly. So, the environmental aspect of factory activities have been taken in to consideration and attention is paid to protect the environment. The first step in this process is to identify the potential impact of the factory and evaluate the intensity of the impact so that effective measures can be taken to mitigate adverse impact.

We provide a safe, accident free operation at our facilities and identify potential hazards before the manufacturing process begins. All manufacturing and R&D locations are subjected to a detailed safety audit and risk assessment exercise. We provide proper in-house education and training with an objective to in calculate in every member of the organization, a sincere appreciation for Environmental, Safety & Health concern. This policy has provided the information on impact of different environment policy issues due to the operations of the facility. The main objectives of this policy are: . To present the factory activities. To describe the existing environment.  To identify the major environmental impact due to the implementation of the existing industrial development. To suggest the effective measures to mitigate the adverse impact.

As per environment conservation act “95 and Environment Conservation Rules “97 Ministry of Environment & Forest, Government of The peoples Republic of Bangladesh.

Project Description

Present status of the Factory: Our factory is now in running stage. The total capacity the Factory is about 1.5 million pcs (per month). Our factory has got Environmental no objection certificate (NOC) from the local authority and environment certificate from Department of Environment (DOE), Government of the peoples republics of Bangladesh.

Raw materials: The raw materials are using in the factory are different types of sewing thread, button, label, light detergent etc. Which are imported on basis of back to back L/C or sometime buyer nominated source. The packing materials are collected our own source or sometime buyer nominated source.

Baseline Environment

Physical Environment: AUTOKnit Wear Ltd has been set up

Water Quality: There is no permanent surface water body around the factory

Air Quality: Up-to-date Air quality data around the factory site are not available, as there is no provision for monitoring air quality in this area. But it has been observed that the apparent ambient air quality of the area is fairly good.

Hydrology:The factory area received sufficient amount of rainfall and there is a good availability of ground water which is being used after water treatment (Drinking and domestic purpose).

Evaluation of impact

Impact due to project Location: There is no potential bad impact due to our factory, as the factory situated in Industrial area.

Impact Due To Liquid Discharge: There are small amount of liquid discharge from the factory as the GMT is being with plain water and detergent. The insignificant liquid wastes generated from domestic activities. The water requirement for domestic purposes is 40m3/day. All domestic waste water has been disposed in a proper way for the recycling process so that it does not create any pollution in the surrounding environment.

Pollution From Solid Waste: Some sold wastes in terms of cut pieces of cut pieces of fabrics, domestic wastes are generated from this industry. These are properly collected and disposed of in a safe way to get rid of the environmental pollution.

Effect On Air Quality: AUTOKnit Wear Ltd has emission from its operation activity during operation. But small thermal pollution has been observed from the boiler and generator operation.

Occupational Health: The workers engaged in the GMTS Production inside the factory area face occupational health hazard due to different operational process. Safe and good occupational health and safety policy status  is  not important only for the persons working in the factory, but also for the better plant operation and maintenance.

Socio-economic Impact: Most of the significant positive impact of the factory is the earning of foreign currencies through exporting of ready-made garment. The other important positive impact of the factory is the employment of personnel for the operation of the factory. The factory employed about 3000 skilled and unskilled personnel. Apart from this two positive impact other beneficial impact include local transport business, local economy because of employment, community development etc.

Measure for Mitigating the Adverse Effects

For Project Location: There is no potential bad impact due to the factory situated in this area as the factory is in Industrial area.

For Liquid Wastes: It is already mentioned that all the factory building is situated in Industrial area.This group already set up Effluent Treatment Plant Equipment (ETP) for safe environmental purpose.

For Solid Waste: All types of solid waste in terms of cut pieces of fabrics and yarn are collected properly and handed over to small trades for recycling purposes. Other domestic solid wastes are collected and disposed of in safe way. Chemical drum, fused eclectic light and other items are properly stored and centrally disposal-system/ back to the supplier.

For Air Pollution: There is no emission or mitigation measure required regarding air pollution, But to disperse the hot air from the boiler and generator the company has installed a 15m chimney with these two equipment.

For Occupational Health: Protective clothing and accessories are provided to those workers who are subjected to exposure to hazardous substances and situation. Regular medical check-up are conducted to ensure the soundness of health and safety policy of the employees and workers. A separate Medical section and sufficient Doctor, Medicine & others operational equipment is present here. The doctor and his experience and background in occupational health problems has been employed to coordinate and implement a detailed and adequate training program conducted for workers in occupational health to ensure health and safety policy for all workers in the factory.

Disaster Management plan: It has been observed that the fire is the major risk factor for the garment factory. So the safety of the factory workers and the factory it self has been considered in a priority basis. The factory has fire Fighting, Risqué management team, first Aid management team, fire evacuation plan, fire alarm & heat detector system, emergency alarm system, smoke detector, sufficient number of fire extinguishers, fire fighting equipments, wide scale staircases. For ensuring regular practice of fire evacuation both announced and unannounced Fire Drill is conducted at least once in a month.

Other Provision: Beyond the above, the AUTOKnit Wear Ltd. also full provision of pure drinking water, toilets, first Aid boxes, Child care center, dining hall, medical center with full time Doctors Facility etc.

Health and Safety Policy

Lime-Washing and Painting:   The interior walls, ceilings, passages and staircases of the factory are clean, dirt free and properly painted. Floor is clean and painted with Epoxy.

Cleanliness :   Whenever dirt and refuges are accumulated, these are swept by the cleaner at once, from the floors and passages. The floor is cleaned at least once in every week by washing and house keeping of whole work room is done once in a month, using detergent and disinfectant where necessary. Record of this cleanliness is maintained in a Register, as prescribed by local laws.

Infestation:   There are hardly any chances of staying of infest at the work space as cleaning is done regularly. Even though these comes from outside seasonally when excessive humidity and temperature takes place and during winter. These are taken care with various anti infest items in regular interval. In the toilets Phenol are used daily. Around the work space Aerosol is used regularly. At night around the window side anti-insect bulb are lighted and dark curtain are used so that light doesn’t attract insects from outside. At an interval of six months, with the help of Pest Control organization whole factory space are sprayed with pest control liquids and vapour to kill all alive infest and larva.

Wastages and Effluents  :   There are small disposal of fabrics cut pieces and loose threads that usually accumulated in the factory and once in a month it is disposed off through local vendor. They (vendor) crashed all cut pieces into cotton for various domestic uses, which is   environment friendly. There is nothing effluent in factory floor. Effluents of latrines usually drained to under ground safety tank. Waste water (from wash room) drains has been constructed maintaining sufficient slope so that nothing can be accumulated on the floor and there is no bad smell.

Ventilation and Temperature          :  The factory floor is equipped with sufficient number of ceiling fans. North South and East side of the floor surrounded by wider window which provide proper ventilation and circulation of fresh air. Natural fresh air from the south swept over the whole floor and keeps the temperature reasonably comfortable for workers therein.

Lighting  :  Glass fitted wider windows are available which provide enough natural light as south side is being unobstructed. Glass at windows is kept clean on both the outer and inner surfaces and free from obstruction as far as possible. In addition to the natural lights, the factory floor is lightened with tube light sets having reflectors with that to intensify the lighting which is sufficient and suitable for work place and passages all over the work place and passages. Level of illumination is more then 600 lax in the working area.

Drinking water  :   There is sufficient volume of fresh natural pure drinking water preserved in jars kept at convenient place on the floor and marked “DRINKING WATER” in English and Bengali. The water jar’s usually washed with normal water, hot water, detergent etc and record of wash is maintained. After wash refilling is done with fresh water and purified with Water Purification Tablets and recorded.

Spittoons:   There are sufficient numbers of spittoons kept at every entrance of the factory. These are filled with dry and clean sand and covered with a layer of bleaching powder on top of it.

Conclusion

There are total 19 separate toilets available for male and female workers. The toilet floor and wall is tiled and having hygienically proven sanitary system. Each toilet is provided with supply water line also equipped with cistern flashing system to wash down the pan/commode. Toilet/urinals are being cleaned once everyday with different types of liquid cleaner. Sufficient lighting systems are available inside the toilet. Toilets are fitted with industrial exhaust fans to accelerate the flow of fresh air. Human disposals drained out to under ground safety tank. This safety tank has been constructed according to design of local public environment policy , health and safety policy
