Fabric Flame Retardancy is testing equipment which is sale by Testing Equipment Systems Limited. Flame resistant fabrics have different degrees of ability to stop flame spread. After leaving the flame source, burning of the fabrics can be quickly stopped. Most of the textiles are flammable. The fire caused by textiles also occurs from time to time. Usually, different textile materials have different chemical structures, their combustion performances are also various. Therefore, we should select different types of flame retardants and flame retardant methods for different types of fibre.

Flame Retardant Finishing Agent

Flame retardant finishing agent exerts the effect of flame retardant mainly through the next several approaches:The flame retardant forms a barrier on the surface of the fabrics, preventing the contact between the oxygen and the surface of the comburent.The flame retardant causes the cellulose fiber fabric to dehydrate and restrains the pyrolysis reaction to some extent.The flame retardant can be used as a transfer of free radicals under the heating conditions to prevent the radical reaction from proceeding, so as to achieve the purpose of flame retardant.

Due to different types of textiles,flame retardant finishing agent can be divided into cotton flame retardant, wool flame retardants, silk flame retardant, synthetic fiber flame retardant, and blended fabric flame retardant,etc..According to the durability of flame retardant finishing agent,it can be divided into: temporary flame retardant finishing agents, it mainly refers to inorganic salts such as borax – boric acid (1: 1 or 7: 3), ammonium polyphosphate, phosphate, oxidized paraffin- antimony oxide and so on; Semi-durable flame retardant finishing agents such as halophosphorus compounds, urea-phosphoric acid (1: 1) and so on; Durable flame retardant finishing agents, such as THPC, the fabric can withstand more than 50 times of washing after it is treated with durable flame retardants, moreover, the fabric still retains well. According to the composition of different elements of flame retardant finishing agent, it can be divided into: phosphorus-based flame retardant, phosphorus is its main compound and it also includes halogen and nitrogen. (The synergistic effect of phosphorus and halogen is stronger than that of the flame retardant including only one element. Compared with the use of phosphorus alone, the synergistic effect of nitrogen and phosphorus synergies is stronger. Nitrogen can promote the carbonization of the fiber and prevent combustion). Ammonium polyphosphate, phosphates, tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride are the common phosphorus-based flame retardants; Halogen-based flame retardant mainly includes bromine. It has the advantages of high efficiency, low dosage, low price, etc. The common halogen-based flame retardant includes hexabromocyclododecane, aromatic bromine compounds, chlorinated paraffin and so on; Boron-based flame retardants mainly include inorganic boric acid and borate, such as sand and boric acid: mixed use by the proportion of 1: 1 or 7: 3. This kind of flame retardant is applied earlier than the others. It is easy to handle and its flame retardant effect is good, but not washable; Nitrogen-based flame retardants includes melamine, phosphate and so on; Blended flame retardants includes phosphorus based-nitrogen based flame retardants, phosphorus-boron based flame retardants and so on.

Flame Retardant Finishing Process

Flame retardant finishing process is a process of preparing flame retardant finishing liquid, which contains flame retardants and other additives, in a certain temperature, time and other process conditions, to make the flame retardant and fabric have chemical reaction or the flame retardant deposition fix on the fabric surface to obtain the effect of flame retardant. If flame retardant and the fabric finished is different, the flame retardant finishing process will be different. It mainly includes padding-baking method, impregnating-drying method, organic solvent method, coating method, etc.. Padding-baking method is the most widely used method in flame retardant finishing process. The flame retardant effect obtained in padding-baking method can resist to washing for several times, which is a durable finishing process. Take cotton fabric flame retardant finishing as an example:

Process: pad flame retardant finishing liquid (two times of dipping and two times of rolling, the picking-up rate is 70% -80%) → drying (80-100 ℃) → baking (160 ℃, 3 min) → washing → drying.

Padding finishing liquid is generally composed of flame retardants, catalysts, additives, penetrant and some other ingredients. Confect it to aqueous solution or emulsion to finish. The picking-up rate can be adjusted according to the demand of flame retardant performance. Drying is usually carried out at about 100 ° C. The baking temperature is determined by different types of flame retardants, catalyst and fiber.

Test the Flame Retardant Finishing Effect

(1) Vertical method

(2) Testing principle

The vertical method is carried out on a vertical burning tester. Use the samples of certain size which have had the flame retardant finishing to do the combustion test. To measure its combustion performance according to the burning time, smoldering time and damage length.

(3) Testing method

  • Sample preparation: take the samples of latitude direction and longitude direction respectively 5 pieces which have had he flame retardant finishing, the size is 300 mm × 80 mm.
  • Place the sample in a sample holder of a vertical burning tester and fix it vertically.
  • Connect the air supply, press the ignition button, and then the ignition is on, adjust the flame, so that it is in a stable height of 40 mm ± 2 mm.
  • The igniter turns off automatically after 12 seconds of ignition and resets.
  • Test the continued burning time, the smoldering time of the sample (accurate to 0.1s)
  • Remove the sample holder, remove the sample and fold it in two along the length direction, hang on the required heavy hammer on one lower end side of the sample, slowly lift another lower end side of the sample to measure the damage length, that is charcoal length (accurate to 1mm)

As an integral part of your  internship for the Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronics Engineering program . Under  Auto  33MW Gas Engine Power Plant” in Pedia  Power Ltd. During your working period we have worked under the instruction of Engr. Mr. Abul Mashiur, Head of Electrical Maintenance, Engr. Mr. Monir Ahmed, Shift Engineer Electrical, Engr. Mr. Mahfus Jony , Shift Engineer Electrical, Mr. Monir Sarker Patwary, Electrical Operator and Mr. Gazi Rahman, Mechanical Operator and so on.

  • Objective of the report

Broad Objective

The Board objectives are to express we theoretical knowledge to the practical field with adequate conceptualization and understanding the performance of the parameters in case of Power Generation; Operation, Maintenance and Troubleshooting of Alternator, Transformer and Switchgear Protection systems etc.

Specific Objective

In order to the broad objectives we have to be able to find out the following:

  • Study on Gas Engine Generator, Substation, Switchyards.
  • Study on Maintenance for smooth Power supply.
  • Identify the different types of problem which arise for generation and substation.
  • To make an analysis of total power consumption, various losses.
  • Identifying different types of Trips due to Engine.
  • Suggest probable solution of the identified problem.

Scope

This report will cover the operating and controlling system of these machines, transformers, power factor improvement, synchronization, troubleshooting, switchyards and its protection systems and what equipment is placed in which zone, how the equipment has been synthesized etc, of Auto  33MW Gas Engine Power Plant. The scope will be limited to only this type of Electrical  power generation.(Gas Engine)

Background

Load shedding is common in Bangladesh today. The Country can generate only 4000 MW against national demand of 5200 MW. This electricity crisis has become intolerable to us. Energy shortages are causing slowed down economic activities along with the daily life activities of people in Bangladesh. Pervasive power outages rob the country of 2 percentage points of national growth. For a developing country like Bangladesh economic growth is essential. But electricity persists as a major barrier for the business community and electricity supply has struggled to keep up with demand spurred by solid economic growth.

Power plant is one of the few blooming industries in Bangladesh generating huge foreign direct investment and also a significant number of employment opportunities. This industry is one of the major driving forces of national economy and with the continuous development of technologies worldwide.

In the Power sector, Power industry of Bangladesh promises to bloom further in the coming years. In today’s dynamic business environment, it is even more challenging to run the technology based businesses in the right direction with minimum cost which ultimately maximizes the profit.

Auto  Power Plant (JPP) is a project under Pedia  Power Limited. It generates 33 megawatts (MW) of electricity. This Power Plant established at Auto  in 2007. It is connected in the national power grid (Auto  National Power Grid) but it sells to Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).

Methodology

Both primary and secondary data are being collected for the purpose of this report. The report is concentrated of Auto  33MW Gas Engine Power Plant in Pedia  Power Ltd.

  • Primary Data: Primary data has been collected from the Deputy Manager/ /Engineers/ Operator through a face-to-face interview with a formal questionnaire. Data also collected from the operation & maintenance manual, disassemble & assemble manual, user manual handbooks, text books and official documents of the company.
  • Secondary data: Secondary data are being collected from the printed Journals, brochures and websites.

Pedia  Power Ltd.

At a Glance Pedia  Power Limited (SPL), sponsored by Pedia  Group, is the first Bangladeshi Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Bangladesh in private sector providing power to national grid. SPL was incorporated in Bangladesh on March 30, 1997 as a Private Limited Company. On June 7, 2004 the Company was converted to Public Limited Company under the Companies Act 1994. Pedia  Power Limited in the year 2001, has successfully established three power plants of 11 MW capacity each, for sale of electricity to Rural Electrification Board (REB) on Build, Own and Operate basis at Dhaka. During 2006 and 2007 in each of the above three places, 2nd unit was commissioned enhancing the capacity of SPL to 105 MW. In 2009 SPL with its 99% owned two subsidiaries has established 4 new power plants raising its capacity to 215 MW. In 2011 SPL has commissioned another power plant of 102 MW capacity at Narayanganj under Pedia  Power Limited, where SPL has 55% ownership. In association with its parent company Pedia  Industrial & Mercantile Corporation (Pvt.) Ltd. (SIMCL), SPL has also participated and became lowest bidder in three more power plants tender and expected to sign contracts with BPDB for establishment of 52 MW Pedia  , 104 MW Pedia  and 104 MW Pedia  Amin Power Plants. These are 15 years term IPP is expected to be commissioned by 3rd quarter of 2012. Considering the immense opportunities, the company is striving to establish more power plants around the country. The fast-growing company has set a mission to expand the company with a power generation capacity to the tune of 1000 MW, which is a modest 20% of the electricity requirement in Bangladesh. It can be applied for variety of treatment

BACTOSOL ACG liq

Treatment of articles of cellulosic fabric with Bactosol ACG liq improves the wearing comforts and is suitable for fashion effects due to its versatile action. It can be applied for variety of treatments.

  • Production of a used or old fashioned look by modifying the textile surface .
  • Works basically on all cotton garments, Tencel,denims, knits, cotton &their blends.
  • Permanent, soft handle on heavy, thick qualities and articles with rough surface.
  • Facilitating the removal of dead / immature cotton and reduction of any fibre hairs on the     surface (less tendency  to pilling).
  • Enzymatic desizing of CMC (Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose) derivatives.
  • Peach-Skin & Bio-touch effects.

Scope of Application

  Process -sequence for  Denims.

For  Over-Dyed Denims

Fabric: Raw  Blue Denim

1. Desizing :

0.05  to  0.1 ml/l  Sandozin NITI Liq.

0.75  to 1.5%owm Bactosol  TKI  Liq

pH-6.0  , temperature 52 deg C.time-25 min.

2. Bleach

3.  Neutralise & Rinse.

4.  Diresul  Dyeing

5. Bio-wash

Adjust  temp. to  52 degC.& pH to 5.0. with Sirrix 2UD.IN.

Add Bactosol ACG liq 0.5 to 1.0% owm.

Run for 45 min to 75 min.

Hot  Rinse.

6. Softening

Ceranine PNLI  Liquid-2 to 3 %

Tumble  for  20 min at 40C & pH-5.5

Biopolishing  for Cotton Fabrics & their Blends.

Bactosol ACG liq can be  incorporated just before  finishing  stage in high value cotton  goods  ( for e.g.shirtings)    by giving it a treatment in Jet Dyg. machine to give value-addition through better surface-feel & appearance.

Recipe:    0.5 to 1 gpl  Bactosol ACG liq

pH    = 5, temperature 52 degC.

Time = 60 to 90 min.

Biopolishing   of  knits

Clubbing Bactosol ACG liq ( 0.5 to 0.75 % owf ) with Imerol PCJ & Imacol C liq in the protonic pretreatment

stage of Bio-bleach process ( Clariant’s process for cellulosics ) will lead to better surface fibre removal.
